Monthly Affiliate Newsletters - October 20, 2008

Dear Valued Partners,

As this month continues to roll forward, we are getting closer and closer to the largest online shopping season of the year! Yes that is correct, it is only six weeks until the holiday season officially begins.

I thought this month it might be beneficial for me to share with you one of my most successful trade secrets, "How To Make Your Keywords Work For You In 8 Easy Steps!"

I have found that keyword selection is the foundation of online marketing. Everything revolves around keywords. Planning ahead, allowing sufficient time and thought to selecting the correct keywords for your campaign will form a strong foundation and generate profits quickly.

Try implementing the following steps to make your keywords perform on Google Adwords.

1. Do not bid more than $0.50 on keywords if you have just begun a new campaign and do not yet know what the conversion to sale ratio will be. Constant monitoring of the campaign is critical on all new campaigns until you know exactly what ROI you will receive from each keyword.

2. Finding the most relevant keywords, preferably keyword phrases with more than 3 words, will give you a high CTR and therefore a better quality score (Google’s way of grading your Adwords campaigns). Don’t be too specific or you will lessen the traffic volume. There has to be a balance. Keep this perspective in mind and you will see immediate results.

3. Grouping keywords tightly in an ad group will target ads for your ad group and will allow you to design a landing page with close specifications.

4. Constant evaluation of keywords performance will help you make your overall account more effective and Google will reward your efforts.

5. Do not overspend while testing a campaign. $100 is more than enough to find out if you are on the right track. If you could not make a campaign work after spending $100, then I would recommend leaving the campaign and trying a different one.

6. Tracking each keyword is ideal! You pay for every click therefore you need to understand the returns you are getting and where to invest more money. I recommend tracking with Google Analytics, although there are many brands of tracking software available. Google Analytics shows all the data, including conversions in your Adwords account, and as your advertising expands allows for easier analysis.

7. Google has started showing the exact number of searches performed on a particular keyword. Improve your campaign by selecting only keywords that have a sufficient number of searches. Avoid choosing keywords with very low searches as this will allow for easier management by controlling the size of your campaign.

8. Do not expect an immediate profit from your new campaign. Have patience and allow a fair amount of time for evaluation. Remember if your account is new, Google will take a longer time to give you clicks compared to older accounts that have an account history. It is said that in general most people visit a website six or seven times before making a purchase.

Although the learning curve for Google Adwords is steep, I have found that this is the fastest way to make profits. After you have completed your first campaign and made it successful, you can also use MSN Adcenter and Yahoo’s Sponsored Search to expand your reach.

Although, I would strongly suggest for you to begin with Google Adwords, as it can be the most cost effective for testing purposes. As always if you have questions on this month’s article, please feel free to email me at amit@universalmarketingmedia.com.
